Work from throughout my career as well as recent projects.
This was a pretty big shoot. We used a huge tank in Sun Valley did a crane move for the first part of the day, then an oscar winning underwater shooter for the underwater completion of the final composed single shot spot. We even had state of the art robotic sharks and made some time for the print shoot as well. Although it was awesome for Richard Dreyfuss of JAWS fame to read the VO, some execs weren't crazy about the read so I posted both his and the traditional VO versions
Golden Globe winner Kiefer Sutherland, returns to FOX in the series TOUCH, an uplifting global hit drama from creator and writer Tim Kring (“Heroes,” “Crossing Jordan”) and Director Francis Lawrence ("Hunger Games" Feature Film Series).
The Title Sequence was designed to show the interconnectedness of all things and people.
The partnership of media giants Oprah Winfrey and Tyler Perry bringing scripted drama and comedy series to OWN is a huge deal. On a visit to Tyler Perry Studios Oprah discovers just how involved Tyler Perry is in his productions.
We shot the principle footage with two of the world's most famous people in just about 2 hours, including all the green screen for several other campaigns.
It was a great honor to direct such a fun spot with stars of this caliber. Although plenty went into the planning and managing the day, not much directing required with these two superstars
Alphas is an action-packed thriller from writers Zak Penn (The Avengers, X-Men: The Last Stand) and Michael Karnow. In the series, five ordinary people are brought together to form one extraordinary team of Alphas -- people with the unique power to stretch the capabilities of the human mind giving them superhuman physical and mental abilities.

Host of Overhaulin' on Velocity, Chris Jacobs explains the challenges of building classic cars vs. the advantages of Toyota Care.
Science Channel chose an abandoned Borax factory to shoot wraparounds with John Noble. We went along and shot as many creepy elements as we could, then poured quite a bit of water soluble paint down an undisclosed drain somewhere in downtown LA. All this made for a very nice season premiere launch campaign.
To promote the launch of the programming partnership between Tyler Perry and Oprah Winfrey, the two stars spend some time filming together. Only Tyler Perry can sooth Ms. Winfrey's excitement as she realizes how far Tyler is willing to go.
A series of motion logos created for promo end pages, ID's and special projects.
IN 2013 Kal Pen of the "Harold and Kumar" film franchise hosted a reality contest in search of great young minds. Inspired by the film Patton we met him in Chicago and shot him with a techno-crane in front of a massive billowing US flag. The end result was this launch spot for Discovery Channel's "Big Brain Theory".
There were 5 complete television series, 12 blockbuster feature films in the most famous sic-fi franchise known to man, "Star Trek".
We were so lucky to get the opportunity to create the main title for the last series starring Scott Bakula and to work with Rick Berman and Brannon Braga, the two heirs to Gene Roddenberry's legacy.
The title sequence is known to be scored to a song called "Faith of the Heart" by Diane Warren, but every rough cut we ever submitted, including the original pitch, was cut to "Beautiful Day" by U2, so that's the only way it seems right to me, and how I have it here.
The idea was to tie real history of Earth to the future Star Trek universe by showing great innovators and explorers throughout history and even a few from a future we have yet to reach.
Flight suit adventurist Joby Ogwyn partnered in 2014 with Discovery Channel to first climb and then fly off of Mount Everest in May 2014. The unforgettable tragedy and events of the April 18, 2014 avalanche and loss of 16 Sherpa guides determined the obvious conclusion to cancel the event.
This short film built for the digital marketing experience of "Everest Live!" used animation to bring some insight to Joby's thoughts and strategy in anticipation of the jump.
My friend John Johnson was a location manager on this show that was going to be a comeback for Keifer Sutherland and John's brother Bob was the production manager on this low budget show for FOX, and got us the meeting with Joel Surnow that led to creating the main title.
9 seasons (including a return to TV in 2014), 9 twenty-four hour days and 309 kills by Jack Bauer alone. That's one kill every 40 minutes, and yet the title sequence stayed exactly as we first made it for every episode.
My friend Brian Wnakum was a PA on this series by first time showrunner Joss Whedon. Now Brian produces "Once Upon a Time" for ABC and Mr. Whedon is the most talented and famous cult tv show creator and Marvel super-verse director ever.
We did manage to do the title sequence for his first tv show. I think we edited the first 3 seasons and Brian took over from there. The song and logo got updates along the way but the rest of the gfx and form of the sequence stayed the same with minor updates for new cast each season. Unfortunately only one(?) year was ever made in HD.
For posterity's sake here I've strung out the seven seasons of title sequences. Thank Nerf Herder for the theme.
The Military Channel rebranded into the American Heroes Channel in March 2014.

On 25 May 2012, an uncrewed variant of Dragon became the first commercial spacecraft to successfully rendezvous with and be attached to the International Space Station (ISS).
We were fortunate enough to spend a week at Cape Canaveral Kennedy Space Center covering all aspects of the historic event including an incredible view for filming the launch

After six years without a Bond film, the franchise returns with a reboot and new Bond Pierce Brosnan to replace Timothy Dalton. The trailer did a great job of showing the audience that Bond was back- even if you were expecting someone else...
Before there was Prologue and Imaginary Forces there was RGA/LA. I worked as an animator on the Mission Impossible title sequence in my time there. I think there is a very good possibility that the first feature film title sequence ever produced on Apple Macs was this one.
The silly little light streak effect at the end- the one that would be done now with a preset filter in like less than a minute? it took something like 8 hours per frame to render on a whole bunch of computers and we had to babysit it for literally days. The computers we used back then had 8 MEGAbytes of RAM. After Effects wasn't even owned by Adobe. One iPhone is certainly mrs powerful than probably a thousand of the computers we used for this. really- a thousand.
The first version is from the finished film with the final music as the director and composer intended.
The second version is with the music the designers picked and used to present and cut to.
We set up a macro to take sequences of hand made adobe illustrator files, open them in photoshop to rasterize them and then import them into after effects as picture sequences. it was a very imperfect process that just might have been easier by hand and took months to do. We really could just make multiple passes of type sequences that an editor would then cut with.
The eyes were first painted from photo references because you couldn't get digital photos big enough for film, and then we animated them all in Soft Image. The clever bit in this was that we could use similar animation data to have the eyes match move so you could cut between them. Of course these simple 3d animations of texture mapped basic geometry took incredibly long to render at the resolution needed.
Once we did a TV show called the Family Law that was on for 3 seasons. I don't have it in HD so I have not posted it here, but the show runner was Paul Haggis. Years later he one 2 oscars for Crash, wrote Million Dollar Baby which one best picture. He then created a series with just 13 episodes on NBC known as "The Black Donnelly's" which we were asked to create a short quick title sequence.
Then among other things he wrote 2 of the next 3 James Bond films.
In case you missed one of the 13 episodes of aired on Fox there was a show called "Killer Instinct". It was a fun title to do and we shot lot's of creepy little inserts, but as most is the case with most of television it never even made it to the end of one season.
EVIL KIN follows true-crime mysteries surrounding bone-chilling cases that prove blood is always thicker than water.
This animated Discovery Communications animated Holiday Card won a 2014 ProMax/BDA gold award.
Ok so we did do the Title Sequence for Stargate SG1. Love it or leave it, MaGyver star Richard Dean Anderson's true legacy is this fan loved franchise, a TV reboot of Rholand Emerich and Dean Devlin's feature film.
SG1 spawned two other live action series and an animated spinoff as well books, comics and video games. The show has a huge fan base and this year MGM has announced a feature film trilogy to be led by the original filmmakers.
The weirdest thing about the main title was that MGM television hired us to do it without telling the show's producers that we were doing it or tell us that the producers had no knowledge of us being hired. Then they flew us up to Vancouver to show it to the show runners, where we all learned what was up minutes before the meeting. Thankfully they liked it.
Previously we had done the original series launch promo for Showtime. Most of the footage of the stargate used for the promo was reused for the title sequence.
6 weekly installments covering the latest movements of NASA's newest Mars Rover designed to to tie in with the series "Curiosity" for Discovery and Science Channel.
